South-West 2 (W): Penryn 17, Taunton 58.

TAUNTON completed the double over the Cornishmen and stepped up their fight against relegation.

They are now level on points with Hornets in the dreaded drop spot and have reduced the Weston club's differential from 77 to 36 points.

Also now drawn into the relegation equation are Cheltenham North, who are just one point ahead and with a differential 63 worse than Taunton's.

All three clubs have two matches left to decide who plays in Western Counties (N) next season.

A clearer picture will emerge on Saturday after Taunton have played Camborne at Hyde Park, Hornets have visited Newton Abbot and North have entertained St. Mary's Old Boys.

Last weekend's game was played under blue skies and minus the quagmire of recent matches.

It was a steep learning curve for Camelford referee, Mr. Weaver, who thought Taunton was in Devon and whose previous experience had been at two levels lower.

The result was not in doubt from early on. Pieter Tosen opened up with a penalty and converted tries by Martin Lacey and Tex Raratabu for a lead of 17 points before Chris Mann responded for the Borough with an unconverted score.

Tosen then touched down followed by Scott Damudamu which Tosen's kick improved; but Penryn reminded the visitors not to be complacent with a try from Steve Uphill, converted by Justin Hocking.

Tosen opened the second session with a personal contribution of seven points taking his total to 21, followed by Raratabu's second from long range.

Tubes Naulivou's unconverted try took Taunton's lead to 27 points before Penryn's Chris Johnson claimed a consolation score.

There was still time for Richard Parsons to crash over for his first ever 1st XV try but the best was saved until last.

Lacey, who holds Taunton's individual record for most tries scored in a league match (six against Cirencester in 2001), jinked through the despairing home defence from his own 22 to score under the posts at the other end. Mojo Tuisawau added the final kick.
