NORTON Fitzwarren gave themselves a massive boost in their bid to avoid the drop on Tuesday night thanks to a 6-0 victory away to Bishops Lydeard Reserves who look certain to be relegated from Division One.

Darren Bonsall led the way for Norton with a hat-trick, while Scott Mervyn, Dave Berry and Kevin Smith all added one each.

Newly crowned champions Porlock defeated the much depleted outgoing-champs Staplegrove 4-0 with goals from Tony Hill, Lee Todd, Adam Jones and Steve Arnold.

Cossington ended their season on a high beating Sampford Blues 5-1. The two Jamies - Hamilton and Stuart - scored two each with Simon Caddy hitting the fifth.

Wyvern similarly finished their campaign with a win beating Locomotives 4-1 with Scott Chidgey, Ian Bishop, Mark Wooliscroft and Dave Anthony on the scoresheet.

Wellworthy Saints need a point from their last game at Westonzoyland on Saturday to guarantee them third place in Division Two. That would also be a promotion place as Staplegrove Reserves can't go up as their first block the way.

On Tuesday, Saints twice came from behind twice to win 3-2 win against Minehead Reserves. Mark Pope scored two and Kevin Andrews one.

Mid-table Spaxton beat Civil Service 4-3 with Dan Sellick scoring three and Nigel Davey one. Civil's goals came from Steve Godfrey, Chris Griffen and Matt Walsh.

l ON Saturday Tom Wadham hit all four goals as Taverners defeated Staplegrove, who had lifted the KO Cup two days earlier, 4-3.

Staplegrove had fought back from 2-0 and 3-1 down - their goals coming from Darren Rice, Kirk Reece and Paul Hadley - but Wadham hit the winner to ensure it was Taverners' day.

Highbridge Town and Locomotives shared the points in a 3-3 draw. Russell Holley, Stuart Carter and Chris Jayes scored for the home side with Steve Weaver netting twice for Locomotives and Mark Wilson once.

Alcombe Rovers called off their game against Bridgwater Sports very late in the day and have had a three point penalty deduction and a fine imposed on them.

In Division Two, Marketeers defeated Dulverton 3-1 away in their last game to go two points clear at the top, although second-placed Staplegrove Reserves still have a game to play.

Matt Jarvis, James Taylor and Dave Baker all scored for Marketeers today with Gary Nicholas replying for Dulverton.

The bottom sides Sydenham Rangers and Norton Fitzwarren Reserves - both already relegated - played each other and Rangers came out on top 5-1.

Dan Crossley, Richard Jones, Les Pope, Steven Jones and Carl Jones were all on taregt with Ryan Smith netting for Norton.

In Division Three, third place was the reward for the winner of the game between Milverton Rangers and Bridgwater Sports Reserves. And it was Sports who were victorious 3-1 thanks to goals from Andrew Barnett, James Prowse and Jason Bale.

Alcombe Rovers Reserves need to win their last their last two games to stay up, after beating bottom side Highbridge Reserves 7-1.

In Division Four, the top two Hemyock and Wembdon - both already promoted - played out a goalless draw.

l LAST Thursday, Staplegrove lifted the League Knock Out Cup by defeating Middlezoy 3-1 in the final at Wordsworth Drive.

Dan Sizer crossed for Charlie Collins to give them a sixth minute lead but Ian Bellinger brought Middlezoy level before half time. After a goalless second half, the game went to extra time and with legs tiring, Ian Larcombe scored a fine individual effort to make it 2-1. Stu Dykes sealed victory for Staplegrove with Middlezoy's keeper committed forward.
