THE Taunton Sunday League representative side lifted the Mavis Tate Cup for the fourth consecutive year after defeating the Perry Street League on penalties in the final at Glastonbury last week.

Perry Street started the game better and after a couple of near misses deservedly took the lead with a well struck shot from the edge of the box.

Taunton began to put some slick passing together and started to create some openings and a clever free-kick from player-manager Martin Jenkins allowed Dave Sowden to equalise with a drilled left-footed shot low into the far corner.

Taunton continued to press in the second half and came close on several occasions while the defence dealt with Perry Street's attacks. But the final whistle came and extra time followed.

Taunton again dominated and Perry Street seemed content to play for penalties but Taunton were given an opportunity to win the game five minutes from the end when Chris Duffy was brought down for a penalty. However, Jenkins' penalty was well saved by the Perry Street keeper and it came down to a penalty shootout.

Taunton feared the worst when they missed their first two penalties but two good saves from Phil Coleman took the tie to sudden death and following Daniel Wilson's well struck effort, the next man for Perry Street blazed over to give Taunton victory.
