Taunton Vale 1sts 4, Cheltenham 0

VALE entertained already-relegated Cheltenham on Saturday in a one-sided affair.

Goals in the first half by James Linehan and Karl Trunks gave Vale a 2-0 lead at half time.

Linehan’s effort was a contender for goal of the season – an absolutely incredible reverse stick strike to the top corner.

In the second half, further strikes from midfielder Jesse Mooney and forward Janus Unger gave Vale the three points.

They remain in their mid-table position of seventh in the Premiership.

Man of the match: Danny Sopp.

Vale head up to Bristol on Saturday to complete their season with a fixture against Firebrands (2pm start), who are one place and three points behind them.

VALE travelled to Exeter for the return fixture against Isca 2nds on Saturday.

With Taunton picking up three points in the fixture earlier in the season and Vale having hit a run of poor form, both teams had a point to prove.

Taunton started brightly and after 10 minutes Charlie Rutherford broke the deadlock, ably assisted by creative midfielder Paul Hawkins.

They doubled their advantage following a well-worked team goal, coolly converted by Josh Hancock.

However, a lack of concentration, coupled with with poor marking, gifted Isca an opportunity to get right back into the game and they then quickly managed to equalise just before the half-time break.

Isca came out stronger after the interval and were clinical in taking their chances to earn a 4-2 advantage, which proved decisive.

Vale kept battling, but couldn’t break down a well-organised Isca side.

Man of the match: Josh Hancock.

Vale, who will finish bottom, complete their season at home to Gloucester City on Saturday (1.30pm).

VALE’s 3rd XI crashed to their third successive defeat, and now need to win their last game and hope other results go their way to avoid relegation.

Vale withstood early pressure from the students with keeper Martin Lawrence making a couple of smart stops, and they forced a couple of penalty corners themselves.

Just before half time, the students broke down their right and the ball was roofed into the top corner, and it was 2-0 after a clever penalty corner routine.

Despite some fine tacking from both George Hebditch and Ed Whittle, and more saves from Lawrence, Vale could not get back into the game.

Man of the match: Martin Lawrence.

Vale, bottom of the table but within two points of four other sides, must win against mid-table Robinsons in Bristol on Saturday (3pm) and hope for favours.

West Dorset 5, Taunton Vale C 1

VALE took on West Dorset on Saturday in the penultimate game of the season.

A slow start from both sides ensued with Vale seeing a fair bit of possession.

However, Dorset took full advantage of their chances.

While spells of the game were good from Vale, the consistency of the previous week was not there.

A notable performance was put in by Vale’s man-of-the-match Tom

Carpenter who worked hard and created several chances.

Vale, who are confirmed as finishing second bottom, finish their season on Saturday at home to Bude (11.30am).

VALE had a torrid afternoon against high-flying Tiverton, who have lost just the once this season and are gunning for the league title.

On Saturday Vale – who could still finish second bottom if Minehead B win or draw – close their season at third-placed Chard A (2pm).
