TWO Taunton Athletics Club members took on the gruelling Exmoor Half-Ironman event at Wimbleball Lake Country Park last weekend and were in impressive form.
Oliver Burrows and Simon Paterson took on the tough course – 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, 13.1-mile run – and top athletes from around Europe and the USA.
Burrows found the course to his liking, finishing in a tremendous third position in a time of 4h 58m 2s, while Paterson was 107th in 5h 46m 11s.
Paterson only started swimming with the triathlon training team this year and took up open water swimming very recently, while Burrows is competing in Ironman UK at Bolton in less than three weeks.
