Evo-Stik South West

Yate Town 0, Taunton Town 2

SHANE White scored a goal of the season contender to seal Taunton Town's 2-0 victory at Yate Town which stretched the Peacocks' lead at the top of Evo-Stik South West to 12 points.

The former Truro City man was captain for the day, with Matt Wright's groin injury keeping him on the bench, and set up the opener as his header was deflected in by Craig Veal from Ryan Brett's corner for the frontman's first goal since returning to the club.

White came close to doubling the lead when his header was deflected on to the bar but, not to be denied, he volleyed home a fine effort from the edge of the box six minutes before half-time as Taunton took a two-goal advantage into the break.

The second half was a quieter affair, but the Peacocks kept hold of their clean sheet and gained another valuable three points in their promotion quest - nearest challengers Salisbury saw their game at Swindon Supermarine, who visit the Viridor next Saturday, postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Next up for Taunton is the visit of Wimborne Town on Tuesday night.
