Bridgwater 240-7 beat Taunton St Andrew's 217 by 23 runs

TAUNTON St Andrew's slid to a third consecutive loss in Premier 1, beaten by 23 runs at home to local rivals Bridgwater on Saturday.

The visitors elected to bat first, boosted by 54 from Andrew Hallaran and a stellar 106no from Will Smeed, featuring seven 4s and four 6s.

Somerset's Max Waller added 27 to help Bridgwater end their innings on 240-7, with James Hayman taking 3-50 off nine overs and Justin Burke 2-17 off 10 for the hosts.

The reply began well, as Tom Banton (74, off just 47 balls) and Rob Contreras (49) took Saints past 100 without loss.

But Banton then fell to Waller, and only Lloyd Alley (15) and Hayman (33) could add double-figure scores for the home side, who were no match for Ian Dev Chauhan, who claimed 6-20 off 9.5 overs.

The hosts were all out for 217 in 41.5 overs, which sees them slip down to sixth in the table ahead of this Saturday's match at second-placed Downend.

Shapwick & Polden 269-7 beat Taunton Deane 266-8 by 3 runs

TAUNTON Deane fell agonisingly short against visitors Shapwick & Polden, beaten by just three runs.

Put in to bat, Shapwick made 269-7 thanks to Will Mason's 62no, plus 35 from Matthew Boswell and 36 from Steve Coppell.

Nathan Gilchrist took 3-52 off 10 overs for the home side.

Deane's innings had a nightmare start, as they fell to 4-2, but Robert Woodman (44) and Harry Thomas (92, with 12 4s).

Sam Shaikh scored 42 and and Gilchrist 47 (off just 25 balls), but it wasn't quite enough to overhaul Shapwick's total.

Joe Mason took 2-26 and Coppell 2-31, both off 10 overs, for the away side.

Deane travel to Lansdown this Saturday.

Weston-super-Mare 195-3 beat Taunton 190-6 by 7 wkts

TAUNTON'S season of struggle continues, as they were beaten by league high-fliers Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

Taunton won the toss and elected to bat, but although the visitors saw out their 50 overs, a score of 190 was unlikely to trouble Weston.

Alex Sparks top scored for Taunton with 37, Charles Clist and James Clark both adding 34; Shabil Ahmed took 3-34 off 10 overs for the home side.

Weston were quickly into their stride with boundaries aplenty, Andy Fear scoring 63, Jack Press 44 and Ben Gully 38.

Peter Trego finished it off in style, with four 4s and three 6s in his 37no, as the hosts won by seven wickets.

Will Abell (1-38 off 10 overs) and James Clark (0-16 off 10) had the best bowling figures for the away team.

This Saturday sees Taunton host Ilminster.
