TAUNTON wheelchair tennis player Lucy Shuker begins her 10th Wimbledon campaign tomorrow, coming off the back of a doubles title and singles final appearance at the ITF 1 Swiss Open.

The ladies wheelchair singles event at SW19 sees Shuker pitted against Aniek van Koot of the Netherlands in the quarter-finals, with the winner facing Marjolein Buis or Yui Kamiji in the last four.

And in the ladies wheelchair doubles, the 38-year-old is paired with Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany; they face Buis and Van Koot in the semi-finals.

Shuker is the only Brit in the ladies’ singles and doubles draw, and she said: “It’s always a great honour to play at Wimbledon.

“This year will mark my 10th appearance at SW19; I feel incredibly proud to be a British woman competing there.

“I hope that my presence can inspire other women and girls to pick up a racket and try tennis as it really is an amazing sport!”

The British No. 1 added: “As a three-time finalist, I’m always searching to go one better and I always approach every match knowing if I’m able to produce my best tennis on the day, I have a chance of being successful.

“It’s always so special to play at The Championships.”

She will hope to be involved in the ladies’ singles final on Saturday, July 14, and doubles final on Sunday, July 15.
