TREPIDATION was the order of the day for the seniors at Vivary Golf Club.

Members battled in teams for the Bliffin Trophy, where a yellow ball counted for double points if not lost.

It didn’t seem to faze Phil Nicholls, Barrie Cridland and Brian Verrier, who won with a mighty 150 points.

Second, way back on 139, were Charles Hall, Chris Stone and Gwynne Ward.

Chris Stone showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the players in the Mike Steadman Stableford, meanwhile, coming home with 44 points.

Three members scored 39 points but, on countback, Barrie Cridland placed second, Charles Hall third and Bob Stock fourth.

The Jenks Stableford saw Keith Parker win with 41 points, one more than Dai Lloyd and Chris Heaslewood, Lloyd taking second.

The June Medal was won by Fred Chapman with a nett 62; David Hawkins and Bob Stock came in with 64, Hawkins was second on countback.

The away day to Mendip Spring Golf Club was enjoyed in glorious sunshine and won by Dave Stowell on countback with 36 points.
Pete Jeffery was second, Colin Woodford (33) third.

TAUNTON & Pickeridge Golf Club held their Pro-Am on Friday when a good day was had by all involved.

The team event was won by the Taunton and Pickeridge Committee with 21, second place went to Jamie Short Carpets and Flooring with 17, and Coomber Fire and Security came third with 16.

The professionals competition was won by Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) with 62, ahead of Toby Hunt (St Mellons) on 66, James Ruth (China Fleet) and Dan Carter (Upavon), both on 67.

The Pro-Am was a fantastic day for the T&P juniors, too, and playing alongside Alistair Welsher – the current Tiverton professional, who was previously the assistant at T&P – were Charlie Hooper, Dillon Watts and Freddie Eglin.

Club professional Simon Stevenson, meanwhile, played with junior captain Bailey Langford, men’s captain Andy Willett and lady captain Jeanne Leader.

Kyle Miller, also from the juniors, represented the section as the junior 36-hole medal champion, and played alongside the men’s winner Sam Sloman and the ladies winner Fiona Lockyer.

Fiona Lockyer was the winner in the top division of Saturday’s Stableford with 36 points, but only after countback edged her ahead of Simon Foster.

In Division 2 it was Derek Blackmore with 41 points who was the winner, two ahead of Nigel Gridley.

On Sunday the Eric Wright 4BBB Trophy took place, at the end of which it was David Potter and Nigel Gridley who won with 46 points, two ahead of Chris Mogg and Nat Pepperell, while Andy Jones and John Delacherie were third with 42.

On Tuesday the ladies played the Daily Mail Foursomes Medal, which was won by Georgia Richards and Jeanne Leader with nett 74, to qualify for the 2019 Daily Mail Foursomes Tournament.

Second place went to Heather Crump and Patsy Morgan with nett 74.5, while Mary Guy and Anna Rees claimed third with 75.5.

The 9-hole Stableford was won by Maureen Hailes with 21 points, two ahead of Heather Fletcher.

Last week the ladies played in the EWGA Medal, and the Silver Division was won by Jenny Scobie (nett 67), ahead of Ali McGown (69) and Corinne Lyon (71).

The Bronze Division was won by Vi Gray with nett 68, two ahead of Linda Fletcher.

SIMON Lawrence won the Kingfisher Cup at Oake Manor on Saturday, scoring 41 points and also winning Division 2.

The next three in Division 2 all scored 39 points, and on countback Sam Hallett was second, John Lowe third and Chris Dubery fourth. 

Tim Day won Division 1 with 40 points, George Wagstaff was second with 39, Mike Tourle (39) third and Richard Beesley (38) fourth.

Marc Holloway was victorious in Division 1 of the Wednesday Midweek Stableford Competition with 40 points; Jason Brock was second with 38, Michael Bright third with 37 and Martin Adams fourth with 36.

Stephen Plowman won Division 2 with 40 points, ahead of Alan Prentice on 38 points.

Daniel Green was third with 37 points and Paul Howe fourth with 33 points. 

The seniors’ Waltzing Bowmaker Competition was won by Clark’s Chimps (Bob Clark, Tony Ford and A N other) with 83 points. 

Second were Elliot’s Eagles (David Elliot, J Harries and Colin Warnes) with 82, and Ramus’ Racoons (Ian Ramus, P Rowe and Peter Verge) were third with 81.

The ladies held a local qualifying competition for the National Ping 4-Ball Better Ball Competition.

Shane Bordier and Sue Reed came first with 43 points, Alison Harman and Pam Akers were second with 42, Rachel Hughes and Julie Cross third (also 42), and Sarah Payne and Suzie Pitt fourth (40).
