Friendly match
Willand Rovers 0, Taunton Town 5

CRAIG Veal scored twice against his old club Willand Rovers as Taunton Town eased to a 5-0 win in their opening pre-season friendly match on Friday night.

There were also goals for Ben Adelsbury, Keith Emmerson and new striker Andrew Neal as the Peacocks won their first match as a Step 3 club.

It was a familiar-looking side fielded by Leigh Robinson at Silver Street, albeit one without Lloyd Irish, Matt Buse (both unavailable) and Dan Sullivan (back injury).

Captain Matt Wright headed against the crossbar from Emmerson's knock-down after only six minutes, and two minutes after that Adelsbury found the bottom right-hand corner of the net with a free-kick.

Veal then doubled the lead with a close-range shot after Neal headed Ollie Chamberlain's cross over to him, before Mike Davies - standing in for Irish in goal - made a good stop to deny Luke Mortimore.

Two more Taunton goals followed either side of the half hour mark, as Emmerson found the net with a deflected shot from Shane White's corner, and then Neal followed up to score after Ollie Chamberlain hit the post.

The fifth and final goal of the night came six minutes into the second half - Veal diving to head in Ryan Brett's cross.

The Peacocks' next match is on Tuesday, July 24, at home to Plymouth Argyle (7.45pm).
