RUNNING Forever athletes hit the road and the trail this weekend, dodging the rain which we’d all forgotten sometimes happens in summer!

When a race is called the Black Rat Ultra and is run by a company called the Mud Crew you might get a bit of an inkling that it isn’t going to be a flat run round a city centre.

This didn’t deter Peter Hall and Robin Upton, who took up this 31-mile challenge on the Cornish Coastal Path and a well-deserved pasty at the end for Upton (7.36) and Hall (8.39).

This weekend saw the running of the Salisbury 54321 series.

Andy Burgess and Georgina Brice took on the 50K ultra, with Burgess finishing in 5.25 while Brice took a massive chunk off her PB when she crossed the line in 6.33.

Bev Collins and Rob Muir took the slightly shorter 42K marathon option and recorded times of 4.26 and 5.41, respectively.

It was off to Dorset for three runners for the first running of the White Star Running Summer Series.

This is a lap race where runners can do as many or as few as they want in the 12 hours and can take cake breaks in between if they fancy.

Lara Bolduc did her four laps in 4.09 while Claire Allison did the same in 8.09 with a nice long rest in her tent between each lap.

Helen Moffat recorded three laps in 3.06.

Sally Tuer travelled further afield for the Darlington 10K and had a speedy 52.17 finish.

As if the water from the sky wasn’t enough this weekend, Heather Pearce made up one half of the Maverick Maidens team for the Buttermere Breca Sprint.

Pearce and her fellow Maiden Charlotte Carritt were first women finishers in 2.54.

This weekend’s parkrun tourists went to Street, Shepton, Eastleigh, Widnes, Burnham, Exmouth and Ludlow.

Thirty-two took part in the local Longrun Meadow event.

HYDRO Harriers’ Chris Jones was back in the Parkrun groove at Longrun Meadow, last Saturday.

Showing no ring-rustiness after a month’s hiatus, Jones recorded a year’s best of 19min 23sec, with Andy White exactly half-a-minute slower.

Meanwhile, further afield, Rowland Lyons finished the extremely tough Torsbreyt (Faroe Islands) 5km in 26-24.
