NEXT up for Taunton Town is a trip to Kings Langley on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Their hosts finished 21st in last year’s Southern League Premier Division (fourth from bottom), having earned three consecutive promotions between 2014 and 2016.

Unsurprisingly their best FA Cup performance is a recent one, reaching the second qualifying round in 2016/17.

This season has seen them lose both matches played so far - 3-2 at Gosport Borough, and 4-2 at home to Harrow Borough.

Roy Mitchard, vice-chairman of the Hertfordshire club, tells us what we can expect from the Kings.

“Kings Langley kick off their third season in the Southern Premier League with high hopes, but under no illusions that survival will be even more challenging than last year.

“Three successive promotions to reach this level have seen resources stretched to upgrade the ground and budget, but the fanbase has increased significantly and the atmosphere is one of continued optimism.

“While the backbone of manager Steve Conroy’s squad is much the same as last season, the closing quarter saw the accent on youth, and Under-18 players Louie Collier, Aidan Collins and Edu Toiny-Pendred will hope to feature again as they develop their promising careers.

“The manager is a firm supporter of quick-passing, pressing football and both last season’s performances following his appointment in January, and the tempo of the pre-season friendlies, demonstrated that his predominately young side have embraced this philosophy whole-heartedly.”
