CURRY Rivel and North Curry started the day first and second in Division Four of the Somerset League and, after a thrilling tie, that's how they finished.

Dave Higginson made 70 as Curry Rivel made 200-8 batting first on North Curry's Taunton School ground. North Curry finished their 45 overs on the same score with James Midgley (45) top scoring.

Bagborough piled up 247-7 at home to Wincanton with John Bishop and Mark Halliwell hitting half centuries and skipper James Briggers making 45. Briggers then completed a great all-round display by snapping up 7-71 as the visitors were restricted to 243-9.

Staplegrove have avoided drop from Division One following a 98-run victory at home to Purnells in their final game.

The hosts batted first and made 212-9 with Rich Rowe leading the way with 55, while Andrew Jeanes made 40 and skipper Will Penny 31. In reply, Purnells were well short after being bowled out for 114 with Roly Craddock (3-11), Mike Bird (2-12) and Penny (2-20) doing most of the damage.

Taunton CS Radiac and Outcasts secured fourth place in the table with a 35-run victory away to relegated Wedmore. The visitors batted first and made 123 all out with Dan Tottle (47) top scoring. In reply, West Indian off spinner Rico Weekes took 5-18 as Wedmore were skittled out for 88.

Wellington's game at home to Evercreech was cancelled as the visitors could not raise a side.

Wembdon have been promoted to the West of England structure and crowned champions by just three points from Chew Magna despite going down by eight-wickets to Chew.

In Division Two, a fine knock of 80 from Clive Strong could not prevent Watchet going down by 20runs away to North Newton who have been promoted to the top flight along with Butleigh.

TAUNTON Deane clinched second place in Division One of the 2nd XI competition after defeating local rivals Wellington by just seven runs.

Also in the top division, Staplegrove won by 87 runs away to Taunton St Andrews B.
