ALCOMBE Rovers kicked off the new season with a thrilling 6-4 victory away to Taverners in Division One of the Taunton and District Saturday League.

Tom Wadham netted two for the home side, with Rodney Trott and Gareth Conway adding one each.

The scorers for Alcombe were Matt Cracknell with two, Danny Wilson-Gracey, Chris Newbold, Andrew Land and Chris Duffy.

Middlezoy Rovers enjoyed a big win at home against Norton Fitzwarren, hitting seven goals without reply.

Kenzie Farnham scored a hat trick, with Dan Luce and Sam Dennison both scored two each.

Marketeers won by the odd goal in a seven against Highbridge Town, James Bawden hitting three and Mike Baran one.

Bridgwater Sports thought they had the points secure leading 1-0 from a Jason Jones goal against Locomotives in the 89th minute but Nick Cole popped up to get the home side a point.

With a new look side, strengthened by a strike force of Shane Kingston and Matt Francis, Locomotives did deserve to get something from the game.

The two relegated sides met in the opening game in Division Two with Bishops Lydeard Reserves beating Sampford Blues 3-2.

Adam Haymond, Dave Richardson and the ever youthful Andrew Wood all scored for the home side with Jamie Hopkins and Mike Reece replying for Sampford.

Spaxton got off to the perfect start with a 3-2 away win at Hulan thanks to two goals from Barry Dobson and one from Luke Miller. Neil Morgan and Matthew Bawden scored for Hulan.

The scheduled game between Wellington and Wyvern Reserves was postponed.

In Division Three, newly promoted Wembdon lost their opener 2-1 at home against North Petherton who had Craig Wright and Shane Mantyk on the scoresheet. Dave Warren replied for the home side.

Alcombe Rovers Reserves made it a double victory for the club with a 1-0 win over Milverton Rangers thanks to a Ross Addicott goal.

Bridgwater Sports Reserves started with a 3-1 away win at Norton Fitzwarren Reserves with goals from Jason Coleman, Jake Chidgey and Andrew Barnett. Callum Flaherty got one back for Norton.

In Division Four, it was a great day for two new teams Wembdon Saints and Bridgwater Sports Colts who both started with wins.

Sports beat Highbride Town Reserves 3-2 with Steve Redman hitting two and Gareth Monaghan one. Simon Fouracre and Andy Williams replied for Highbridge.

Wembdon Saints took a 2-0 lead over Old Inn with goals from Lee Neilson. Daniel James got one back for Old Inn but an own goal completed a 3-1 victory.
