RYAN Bradford led the scoring stakes on the opening day of the Taunton and District Sunday League season, hitting seven for LA Guns who beat Old Inn 8-1 in the preliminary round of the Gardner Cup.

Chris Andrews was also on target for Guns.

League newcomers Creech Rangers provided the shock of the round with a 4-0 victory over top division outfit PQR.

Dale Webber led the way for the fifth division outfit with a hat-trick, although PQR were without a number of regulars.

Holders Perfecto Allstars went through with a 5-2 victory over Westford Rangers.

Their scorers were Matt Francis, Mark Symons, Matt Durbin, Pat Sherwood and Dean Quinn.

North Curry beat Langport Town 8-2 with Harry Huffen scoring four, Mick Daniels, Simon Williams, Steve Young and Haydn Kneeshaw grabbing one each.

Rob Davin hit a double hat-trick for Bishops Lydeard - formerly Bell Rangers - in their 8-1 victory over Royal Crown with Martin Groody and James Welch also on target.

A goal from Westgate Wanderers' Barry Holder was not enough to prevent a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Tone Youth whose scorers were Mark Fitzgerald, Scott Graham, Ashley Parker, Toby Fielder and Nick Whyborn (2).

Two games went into extra time to decide their winners.

Sportsman Rovers and DB United fought out a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes but a goal in extra time from Rovers settled the tie. DB United's scorers were Nathan Land and Daniel Adams. An even 90 minutes between Pitminster Lions and Staplegrove Reserves ended 3-3, but Staplegrove romped to a 7-4 victory with four extra-time goals.

Aaron Ellicott, Tom Melhuish and Matt Melhuish netted for Pitminster with Andy Johnson (2), Dan Green (2) and Ian Larcombe on target for Staplegrove.

Spartans had to battle back from a two-goal deficit before scoring six to defeat Ash Rangers whose scorers were Tom Wadham and Sam Wilkinson.

Pheonix Rangers thumped Black Horse 6-0 with three goals from Richard Humphreys, two from Jack Rendall and one from Tom Rendall.

There was also wins for Spaxton Rangers who beat Holway United 6-0, AFC Legends who defeated Carhampton 4-0, Watchet who won 4-3 against Cotford Saints Reserves and Royal Crown Reserves who beat Eagle 4-3.
