TRURO City FC have given an update on their vacant managerial position - with Taunton Town boss Leigh Robinson understood to be in the frame for the role.

Lee Hodges resigned as manager of the National League South club just two games into the season, with Ben Harding taking over as interim manager.

The Cornish club are second bottom in National League South, with three draws and five defeats from their eight matches; they have been playing their home games at Torquay United's Plainmoor Ground.

Truro's website announced on Monday evening: "We can confirm that the appointment of a new manager is expected within the next 24 hours.

"A number of loose ends are currently being tied up and once these are finalised, an official announcement will be made.

"It is our hope that interim manager, Ben Harding, will remain part of the new coaching set-up. He has done well in difficult circumstances and proved that he has the necessary skillset.

"However, at this current time we require a more experienced manager to guide the club forward.

"We thank Ben for his sterling efforts as interim manager."

Rumours regarding the future of Robinson, and assistant manager Michael Meaker, emerged at Saturday's home match with Basingstoke Town.

Robinson was not at the match, as he was getting married to partner Clare Bray that afternoon.

Taunton chairman Kevin Sturmey told the County Gazette that an approach had been made for Robinson, and that the club would make an announcement in due course.

Robinson took over as Peacocks manager after Paul West resigned in May 2012, and the club has gone from strength to strength since then.

In 2016 the club made it to the FA Cup first round proper for only the second time, and last season brought promotion to Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South.
