First round qualifying
Bishops Lydeard 3, Bishop Sutton 0 (aet)

THERE was little between Bishops Lydeard and Bishop Sutton for the first 90 minutes on Saturday, with the game being dominated by the two defences.

The best chance in the first half went to Lydeard's Callum Flaherty, but his 38th-minute header hit the crossbar.

In the 47th minute, Prince Mubhungo forced a superb double save out of home keeper Nathan Whatley with two close range shots.

The game really came alive in extra time, as Jake Quick broke away down the left wing, rounded the full-back and slotted home a superb shot.

Then Mark Clunie made a solo break down the centre of the pitch and calmly stroked home Lydeard's second.

The third goal was also as a result of a breakaway, and was scored by Ryan Brereton just before the final whistle.

Lydeard will not be joined in the next round by Wellington AFC, however, after the Tangerines lost 3-1 to Saltash United at Cullompton.

Sam Farrant put the visitors ahead, only for Josh Wadham to equalise.

The Cornish side finished the stronger, though, as goals from Lee Phillips and Richard Maddison put their team through.

MINEHEAD AFC, Staplegrove and Watchet Town all progressed through to the next round of the Somerset Senior Cup with wins on Saturday.

Luke Howells put Minehead ahead against Saltford in their first round match at Irnham Road, but Ross Lawson levelled after the break.

The Blues responded in style, Mike Graddon smashing home the winning goal.

Darren Rice scored two free-kicks as Staplegrove drew 2-2 with Parson Street Old Boys.

The game went straight to penalties, with hosts Grove triumphing 4-3 on spot-kicks to progress.

Watchet were 4-1 winners against Wells City Reserves at the Memorial Ground, their opener coming from Tom Sparks.

The hosts missed chances aplenty, and were made to pay when Sonny Carr levelled for Wells, but Aaron Deeks restored Watchet's lead before half time.

Second-half goals from Sparks and Charley Clausen sealed victory for the home side.
