FORMER Taunton Town manager Leigh Robinson has said that his move to Truro City was motivated by a desire to "prove himself at a higher level".

The White Tigers confirmed the appointment of Robinson and assistant Michael Meaker yesterday evening, as the club looks to arrest a run of form that sees them winless from eight National League South games.

They have also been playing their home games 100 miles away in Torquay, as their Treyew Road home has been taken over by developers to build a retail park.

Robinson had been in charge of Taunton for six years, with Meaker joining as his right-hand man in the summer of 2015.

Robinson told the Truro City website: "I am really pleased to have this opportunity, along with Michael Meaker, to join Truro City and help the club move forwards

"As a management team we have had a very successful couple of years and are now hungry to prove ourselves at a higher level, which was the main attraction for the move.

"We are, of course, aware that there has been a lot of uncertainty and upheaval at the club in the last few months with the stadium move and the management team leaving early on in the season.

"However, we also have to be single-minded in our approach to moulding the team into what we want it to be and start winning football matches despite all the off-field stuff, and this is what we’ll be looking to do quickly."

Rob Dray and Matt Villis are in interim charge for the Peacocks, starting with tonight's Southern League Cup match at home to Street (ko 7.45pm).

Chairman Kevin Sturmey commented: "The players are the same, Rob, Matt and Dave [Lukins, physio] are the same, the board is the same – we now need to deal with the future and recruit to complement what we have, not knee jerk, react and rush to appoint.

"I’m not always conventional in my thinking and while I am sure there will be a lot of people interested in coming to the Viridor Stadium it has to be right for the current board, management and also the players."
