WATCHET Bowling Club had three representatives at the men’s national finals at Leamington Spa this year - with two becoming English champions.

Luke Townsend competed in the Champion of Champions event, reaching the second round; Sam Steel was in the Two-wood and Under-25 singles, making the semi-final; and in the National Pairs Neil Williams went with Sam Steel, and they won!

As National Pairs champions, they go on to represent England next July against Scotland, and Watchet wish them all the best.

After they won at Leamington they were presented with the trophy by the tournament sponsors Bowling Abroad, whose managing director Ron Scott is an active member at Watchet.

Back in Somerset, Watchet A suffered defeat to Portishead RBL, gaining two points to Portishead’s 10.

The B team made another long distant travel to Westlands Yeovil.

On a fast green devoid of grass, Watchet knew they had to get at least four points to be safe in South & South West Division 1.

Unfortunately they could not achieve this, and so their existence in the league hangs in the balance.
