THE Somerset Cricket Museum's Fundraising Evening featuring MCC president and former Somerset player Dennis Silk was a huge success and raised almost £1,400.
A large audience sat spellbound as one of the most entertaining and interesting speakers on the cricketing circuit talked about his life in cricket.
He gave a fascinating insight into the way the game was played back in the late 1950s and early 60s, before answering a number of questions.
The evening rounded off with an auction, which featured an original painting of Brian Close by local artist Mike Tarr, an England one day cap signed by Marcus Trescothick and a pair of Justin Langer's batting gloves that he wore during the winter Ashes series which he had signed, and a raffle.
At the end of the evening Silk was presented with a portrait of himself painted by Mike Tarr as a token of thanks from the Somerset Cricket Museum.
