WELSH rugby legend Mervyn Davies will close the 2007 season of Somerset Sporting Alliance dinners when he heads up the guest list at Taunton's Bathpool ground on Friday, September 14 - and what an evening lies in store for those attending.

Not only will they have the opportunity to listen to and meet the No 8 who was affectionately known as 'Merv the Swerve', but during the evening they can also watch the World Cup match between England and South Africa that will shown live on the big screen.

Davies is one of rugby's great figures and between 1969 and 1976 the man who always wore a white headband won 38 consecutive Welsh caps.

In 1975 he was awarded the captaincy and he was a prominent member of the British Lions.
