SIXTEEN members of Running Forever Running Club took to the hills and roads hoping to set new personal bests or beat their own personal challenges.

Four runners travelled to Bampton to compete in the Quarryman's Trail, a hard 10k multi-terrain race which begins by asking the athletes to run solidly uphill for the first 2km and then face large amounts of mud and water somehow discovered especially for the event.

Mike Nicholls led the club runners home in a speedy 55.01min and 24th position.

Malcolm Hutchings was next in 33rd and a time of 59.14. Val Perigo then pipped Phil Wilson to the finish in respective times and positions of 71.55 in 53rd and 73.11 in 55th.

The other 12 runners opted for a fast road event - the Langport 10k. The event continues to grow in popularity and the competitors' free towel at the end was much savoured.

Daniel Talbot was the first club member back in 42.21. Martin Kemp was next in 43.03, with George Hudson crossing the line in 46.55.

Sallie Durman beat off the challenge of John Cronk, finishing in 51.09 to his 51.48.

Cherry Eggleston ran a super time of 55.58, followed by club accountant Malcolm Boon, who used his mathematical mind astutely to run a well-paced race in 56.55.

The husband and wife team of John and Ruth Scanlon finished well up the field, with John under the hour in 59.49 and Ruth just over in 1.02.55. Toni Stafford and Sarah Window were close together, finishing in 1.01.56 and 1.02.55.
