TAUNTON Town skipper Matt Wright has played down fears that the club's players will follow boss Leigh Robinson to Truro.

Robinson departed for the White Tigers on Monday, along with coach Michael Meaker, but Wright - who scored twice in yesterday's 7-1 FA Cup drubbing of Bemerton Heath Harlequins - does not believe this will spark an exodus from the Viridor Stadium.

"That can’t happen this year because we are under contract," he said.

"Everyone is happy at the club, it’s a very well run club with good people around it and we are all friends in there. I don’t see why anybody would want to leave."

Wright went on to give his reaction to the departure of the manager who brought him to Wordsworth Drive in the summer of 2016.

"It’s football. A week is a long time in football and you never know what is coming round the corner," he said.

"You can’t take anything for granted and you have to keep going. For us as players nothing changes - we are still going to work our socks off on the pitch and hate dropping points. That won’t change as we are characters that hate losing.

"Rob [Dray] and Matt [Villis] know exactly how we play and we as players know exactly how we want to play, so I think there are good times ahead for Taunton."

Reflecting on Saturday's comprehensive FA Cup victory, the frontman added: "We took a while to get going.

"They were always going to slow it down, which we knew and didn’t need to get sucked into, but once we got going we were very professional about it compared to last year when we got knocked out by lower league opposition [Tavistock].

"That [last year's defeat] was an extra incentive. We don’t want to be all over social media with people ribbing us – we did a very professional job, and I would expect nothing less from us.

"All of us [strikers] got our goals and we can look to take that into the league now and keep firing."
