TABLE-TOPPING Taunton Titans entertain fellow high-flyers Canterbury at the Commsplus Stadium on Saturday.

Last weekend’s 28-20 win at Birmingham & Solihull lifted Taunton to the summit, while this weekend’s visitors have also won three of their first four matches.

Titans head coach Tony Yapp said: “We have played them a lot in the last few years so we know what they are about and we know they have the players to capitalise if we don’t turn up.

“I think in around week seven or eight we will get a gauge of who will be competing where.

“Everyone is beating everyone and it is very open; normally there is still a team who hasn’t yet lost at this stage.

“It is nice to be top. I see The Rams as favourites and they lost at the weekend, which opens it up for everyone and proves they are beatable.

“We just have to control what we can control - I know it’s a cliche, but we will be taking it one game at a time.”

Reflecting on last weekend's win, Yapp said: “We knew it would be tough and the conditions were a leveller - the heavens opened, which I think suited them.

“We had to change our tactics a little bit and we could have made the game safe a bit sooner if we had taken our opportunities, but I’m always pleased with any win away from home.

“Our scrum was excellent and gave us real control."

Taunton welcome back centre Nick Mason and lock Milo Reynolds, who is likely to replace the injured Barrie Chapman in the second row.

Yapp was also delighted with the Warriors, Taunton’s second XV, who won well at Chinnor on Saturday.

“There is a lot of focus on the Titans but, for us to do well, we need a strong second team,” Yapp said.

“Their performances, and the way they push the first team at training, increases the competition for places.”

The Warriors travel to Barnstaple 2nds this weekend, while Taunton 3rds host Chard 2nds in Somerset 2.

Elsewhere this weekend, Wellington welcome Paignton in Western Counties West.

The Red & Blacks have had a good start to their season following promotion last time out, winning three of their first four matches, but are expecting another difficult challenge this weekend.

Wiveliscombe host Imperial in Somerset Premier on Saturday, while Minehead Barbarians welcome Weston-super-Mare 2nds.
