TAUNTON Town are on their travels this weekend as they take on Metropolitan Police on Saturday.

Interim manager Rob Dray expects to have a full squad available, with defenders Keith Emmerson and Pierce Mitchell back up to fitness.

Dray said: “Everyone’s happy, having won our last three, scored 15 goals and conceded one.

“There are smiles on faces and we’re just getting on with it after a dramatic couple of weeks [boss Leigh Robinson departing for Truro City].

“It’ll be difficult away from home, and there’s a lot of unknowns this season, though we’ve had a couple of reports on them.

“We’ve got to go up there and continue what we’ve been doing; the nitty gritty this season will be the league games with teams established at this level.”

The Peacocks sit third going into the match, with the hosts in mid-table.

Guide to the opposition

The match will take place at the Blues’ Imber Court Sports Club (3,100 capacity) in East Molesey, Surrey – a 138-mile trip from the Viridor Stadium.

Founded in 1919, they were (as the name suggests) originally made up of players from the Met Police Service, but the rule requiring players to be police employees has since been removed.

As far as this season goes, they sit in 12th on nine points, having not won in the league since August 14.

Following a 2-0 home loss to Swindon Supermarine, they’ve drawn 2-2 three times, and also lost 6-3 at Gosport Borough.

Still, their third in the trio of 2-2s was at promotion contenders Merthyr Town, having fought back from 2-0 down.

And on Tuesday night they won their FA Cup replay away to Southern League Premier Central side Needham Market, 3-2 after extra time – again after being 2-0 behind.

So they are clearly not a side to be underestimated, even if the 120 minutes at Needham Market will have taken a lot out of them.

Striker Jack Mazzone and midfielder John Gilbert have been responsible for the bulk of their goals – Gilbert being in particularly good scoring form of late, with three in the last two league games.

Elsewhere this weekend, Wellington - still without influential midfielder Josh Wadham - host Shortwood United in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

Bishops Lydeard are at Odland Abbotonians in the First Division, while Staplegrove host Mendip Broadwalk in Division One of the Somerset County League.
