TAUNTON Town's acting manager Rob Dray was pleased to see his side grind out three points against Frome Town, despite them not finding top gear.

The Peacocks triumphed 3-0 at the Viridor Stadium on Saturday, thanks to goals from Andrew Neal (2) and Ollie Chamberlain.

Dray said: "We weren't at our best, and quite frankly 3-0 flatters us a little bit.

"But we dug in and ground out a good win at home, and we're pleased with the clean sheet.

"Certain aspects were good, certain aspects not quite so good, but we were missing a couple of key players - Matt Wright and Dan Sullivan, who we hope to get ready for Wednesday."

The win followed last week's defeat at Metropolitan Police, and Dray was much happier with the Peacocks' defending this week.

He said: "We probably played better for large parts of the game last week, but we didn't make the personal errors and defended with our lives, chucked everything at it.

"The clean sheet was so important today. We said beforehand that the strikers will always make chances and score goals, but defences win you championships."

At the other end, Neal showed why he was brought in over the summer, with two of the three goals.

Dray added: "He scores goals, and he might not get a chance for 60 or 70 minutes but he's got a knack of scoring, and that's what he's paid for.

"He's great to have about the place, he's an infectious character, he runs all day for you and he's great to work with."

The only blot on the copybook for the home side was a late red card for Ryan Brett, who now faces a three-game ban - captain Wright already on the sidelines through suspension.

"On another day it wouldn't be given, and I think [Brett] is very unfortunate," Dray added.

"It's a yellow, but in the last minute of the game the referee has to manage the situation."

Brett's suspension will kick in next Saturday, meaning he can play in the Peacocks' FA Cup third round qualifying tie at home to St Albans City on Wednesday (ko 7.45pm).

Sullivan and Shane White are doubts - the former missing the Frome match and the latter coming off after 50 minutes - and Dray is keen to add a couple of players to his squad.

The boss said: "Sully [Sullivan] has four days now to get his calf feeling right.

"Shane White's got a dead leg, and fortunately [the FA Cup match] is on Wednesday, which does help us a little bit.

"But Brett [Trowbridge] was absolutely superb today, so it's good to have him back.

"We're not the biggest squad at the moment, but we've spoken to quite a few in the last week or so, and we could do with another couple to boost our numbers."
