BURNHAM-ON-SEA RFC’s 1st XV were left without a game on Saturday, as opponents Bristol Barbarians were unable to raise a side.

It was the third successive weekend that Barbarians failed to fulfil a fixture, and it is understood that they have withdrawn from the league.

The five points awarded to Burnham leave them eighth in the Somerset Premier table.

BURNHAM 2nds did have a match, and enjoyed a 39-17 win away to Somerset 2 South rivals Chard 2nds.

Tom Harris claimed the opening try after Eoghan Westhoff’s turnover, only for the hosts to hit back and take a 7-5 lead.

Undeterred, a fine move from the Stags ended with Alex Bowkett going over in the corner.

The visitors had their tails up now, and scores from Jude Donnelly and Felix Grandfield secured the try bonus point and a 20-7 advantage.

Again Chard clawed their way back into it with a converted try, only for Donnelly’s rampaging run to set up Alex Watkins for a fifth Burnham try.

Conor Howard and Watkins ensured a strong finish for their side with further tries, and added more gloss to the final score of 39-17.
