BURNHAM United’s poor start to the season continued with a 6-0 humbling away to Bridgwater Town Reserves on Saturday.

Their fourth straight defeat saw them eliminated from the Somerset County League Premier & Division 1 Cup, as Lewis Hembery helped himself to a hat-trick from left wing-back.

Josh Champion, Connor Linham and Jamie Moss also netted for the hosts.

Burnham United Reserves enjoyed a much better day, spanking Cutters Friday 8-1 in the Division 2 & 3 Cup.

Benny Windram struck four goals, aided by Kane Powell (2), Nathan Giblett and Harrison Kidner.

In the Weston-super-Mare & District League, Wedmore picked up their first points in Division 1, Will Poole giving them a 1-0 victory over Worle Reserves.

Huntspill Crowns are second in Division 4 after being awarded a home walkover against Wrington Redhill A.

There were contrasting fortunes in the Vardon Cup, meanwhile, as Wedmore Reserves won 6-0 at AFC Nailsea Reserves on Saturday.

Burnham United B, though, lost 3-2 at home to Weston Celtic, despite Wayne Barrett’s brace.

On Sunday, Burnham United Ladies suffered a second consecutive loss in Division 1 of the Somerset County Women’s League, 4-1 at home to Frome.

Burnham trailed 3-0 at the break, and Daisy Goldsmith’s goal could not inspire a comeback; Enna Christmas was in festive mood with a hat-trick for Frome.

There was a better result for Burnham United Under-18s on Sunday, as they beat visitors Minehead AFC 4-3.

Their goals came from Aminul Barik (2), Mason Broadhurst and Cain Smith.
