TAUNTON & Pickeridge golfers took part in the Newton Cup, a Waltzing Stableford, on Saturday, which involved one score to count on hole 1, two on 2 and three on 3 and then back to one score on hole 4, etc.

At the end of the round, the team who danced their way to the top of the leaderboard were Clare Welsher, Mark Bushen and Rich New who between then scored 74 points.

Second place was claimed by Miles Skuse, Chris Wadham and Richard Bond with 71; John White, Keith Welsher and Tim Salter were third with 70; while Paul Hewton, Tim Nuttall and Dave Kennedy ended fourth.

On Tuesday, the Ladies took part in a Stableford won by Jan Olive with 36.

However, three players returned 35 but, after countback, it was Ali McGown who was second, Berni Hatcher was third and Mary-Jo Shepherd fourth.

The only two of the day was scored by Mary-Jo Shepherd on the par 3 second hole.

On Sunday, 18 couples took part in the Annual Griffin Cup Mixed Greensomes Stableford competition.

The winners on the day with 42 were Terina and Kevin Parker, Lyn and Nigel Gridley were second with 40, and Jacky and John Ford third with 39.

The highlight of the competition was a Hole-in-One by Jacky Ford on the 140-yard 16th hole.

The former Lady Captain has scored two previous Aces, but these were when playing abroad, so this was her first on her home course.

Last year, Mary-Jo Shepherd aced the 10th hole, so this competition is expensive at the 19th hole!

The Best Front 9 Score went to Trevor French and Mary-Jo Shepherd, with 19.

The Best Back 9 Score was won by Phil Barrett and Ali McGown with 20 points on countback.

Twos were recorded by Nigel and Lyn Gridley, David and Judy Powell, Kevin and Terina Parker (2), Laurence and Jeanne Leader, Joe and Linda Knowles, Trevor French and Mary-Jo Shepherd.

IAN Loader and Sue Reed won the Roffey Cup, a Mixed Greensomes Stableford Competition at Oake Manor Golf Club, with an excellent score of 46 points.

Thomas Bordier and Rachel Hughes came second with 44 points and the next four pairs were tied third on 42 points - they were Nigel Jackson and Julie Cross, Graham Salway and Sandra Lawrence, Tony Snellings and Shane Bordier and Jimmy Greenhow and Jane Clist.

Simon Molloy won the Friday Stableford Competition, scoring 42 points.

In second place was Thomas Bordier with 38 points, Keiran Ashton came third with 37 points and Daniel White was fourth with 36 points.

Club Competition Secretary Andy Gent won the Sunday Medal Competition scoring a nett 65.

Second in Division 1 was Mark Chapman with nett 67, Mark Tydings was third with nett 70 and Simon Manking was fourth also on nett 70.

Peter Bailey won Division 2 with nett 66, John Ashton was second with nett 67, Ken Roberts came third with nett 68 and Bob Perry fourth with nett 70.

Martin Rivers won the Seniors Stableford Competition scoring 38 points. The next three players in Division 1 all had 37 points but on countback Charles St. George was second, Mike Amos was third and Howard Spear fourth.

Gordon Gosney won Division 2 with 39 points, Gerald Greenway came second with 37 points, Tony Ford was third with 36 points and Julian Kerry fourth also 36 points.

Michael Bright won the Wednesday midweek stableford with 40 points, Peter Bailey came second with 38 points, Brian Davis was third with 37 points and Daniel Green fourth, also on 37 points.

PROSPECT: Olivia Lake

OLIVIA Lake, aged 11, and Enmore Park’s leading junior girl golfer, played at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club last weekend as part of the Somerset Girls Performance Academy.

The youngster, who hails from Bishops Lydeard, has been part of Enmore Park’s Academy for two years and has seen her handicap fall to 40 this year.

The Academy brings together the county’s leading promising young players with potential.

Enmore Park Ladies enjoyed a wonderful autumnal day for their greensomes competition on Wednesday.

Sue Hales and vice-captain Wendy Walker claimed first place with 43 points, second place went to Betty Edney and Judy Hancock with 40 points, one ahead of third-placed Sally Dymock and Pat Rodgers, who returned with 39.

Enmore Park Seniors travelled to Cricket St Thomas to do battle with a team unbeaten at home all season; Graham Pain’s marvels came away with a stunning 6-1 victory.
