FACED with bleak weather in Taunton, some Running Forever members flew off to the Majorcan sunshine to do their running.

Ray Tutton ran the full 26.2 in 4h 01m, while Lucy Spring (2.23) and Paul Cooper (2.39) took on the half.

Not quite so exotic but still a nice spot for a marathon, four athletes travelled to Cornwall for the Eden Project races, where there was a free pasty for all finishers in the goody bag.

Lara Bolduc finished the half in 2.22, while Keith Thompson (4.14), Ian Jones (5.57) and Eliza Brodie (6.04) did the full distance.

All got a PB for pasty eating!

Talking of wild and hilly, it was off to Dorset for Bev Collins and Rob Murr, for the White Star Running Chase Marathon.

This race didn’t disappoint those expecting wild and scenic, but our duo were undaunted, with Collins finishing in 5.09 to take third place for female finishers.

Murr crossed the line in 6.55 for this ‘marathon’, which turned out to be over 29 miles.

Those opting for just a short hop down the M5 took on the Exeter Half Marathon this weekend.

A great club turnout for this one, and some great times; first finisher was Simon Rowland in 1.52 and John Allaway was next with his 1.59 PB.

Darren Purchase finished in 2.13, Georgina Brice in 2.15 and Emily Vining with 2.21.

The Musketeers completed the contingent, with Ali Wasey, Kirsti Nelson and Duncan Gordon posting 2.30, 2.35 and 2.38, respectively, to collect their medals.

A couple of members travelled to London for the Royal Parks Half, always a popular autumn event.

Mercedes Thorne finished in 1.54 and Marina Tomsett in 2.28.

Brian Brown was back in Yorkshire for the Richmond Castle 10K, which he completed in 1.11.

It doesn’t get much more local than North Petherton, where a trio of members ventured for the Petherton Plod 5k.

Vicky Hanna was second-placed female with her 25.24 finish, while Lisa Windsor and Sarah Holloway took 32.45 and 35.27, respectively.

This weekend’s parkrun tourists went to Carrerick, Seaton, Hastings, Hove Prom and Gloucester North.

Seventeen took part in the local Longrun Meadow event.

Hydro Harriers’ Parkrunners at Longrun Meadow were led home, in poor conditions, by Chris Perring in 20min 6sec, last Saturday.

Also rans were Chris Jones (20-08, 1st in age-category), Andy White (20-40) and Ian Salter (21-19).

Meanwhile, at multi-terrain Hoblingwell (Kent), Rowland Lyons (24-59) was second in age group M55, adrift of surprise guest, Parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt.

Last Sunday’s torrential rain did not deter hardy Hydro Harrier Andy White in posting 20m 59s (10th from over 130 entrants), in the Petherton Plod 5k road race. His son, Sam, won the event in 17m 39s.

The past two weeks have seen runners from the Just Run Taunton group head across the Severn Bridge to Cardiff, south down to Exeter, plus the odd event in Somerset.

The Cardiff Half Marathon route took runners past the city’s most iconic landmarks, with beautiful scenery and historic buildings.

The predominately flat and fast course makes it ideal for beginners and elites.

With the race starting outside Cardiff Castle, the runners then head down past Cardiff City Stadium on the way to Penarth, taking in the glorious Penarth Marina, before crossing the barrage and heading to Cardiff Bay.

After heading to the north of the city the runners complete a loop of the beautiful Roath Park Lake before the grandstand finish in the heart of the city.

First home for Just Run was James Pither in 1:55:04, followed closely by Kevin Dunn in 1:56:08.

Running his first-ever 13.1-mile event was Nick Hawkins, who completed the course in 3:03:55.

A week later, on a day the heavens opened, saw the Great West Run taking an exciting 13.1-mile route through the heart of Exeter.

This half marathon has it all; a journey through the city centre, followed by pretty country lanes, stunning views across Exeter and a fantastic stadium finish.

In conditions not ideally suited to running a personal best, Donna Adams still recorded a PB, finishing the distance in 2:30:04.

In-form Ashley Stewart continued to impress leisurely, completing the run in 1:48:15.

Running his second half marathon in two weeks was James Pither 2:02:15, followed by Sam Adams 2:09:59 and Wayne Brooks 2:10:06.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Exmoor Coast 50km was taking place.

Starting at Combe Martin, the course heads east to Minehead at the official South West Coast Path start/finish marker.

Taking part was Dan Brice, completing the undulating course in 50th position, in a time of nine hours and 59 seconds.

Ross Brayley has been running in the shorter 5k events.

The first of six monthly runs, the Street 5km series (organised by Wells City Harriers), took place this month, with Brayley completing the course in 20:30.

Following that one, he made his way to the Petherton Plod 5k, finishing eighth out of 152 runners in an impressive 20:02.
