Wellington AFC 0, Willand Rovers 2

WELLINGTON came unstuck at home to Willand Rovers on Saturday, the visitors winning 2-0 to leapfrog Bridgwater Town at the top of the table.

The first half was a fairly even affair, though Willand saw a free-kick strike the post, and the teams went in goalless at the break.

But, on the hour, George Painter was sent off for handball and the penalty was dispatched by Josh Searle.

Wellington's 10 men battled gamely, though, and the visitors only made the game safe in the last 10 minutes, Craig Duff heading in from a free-kick.

The Tangerines, now 11th in the table, are away to 16th-placed Cribbs this coming Saturday (ko 3pm).

First Division
Bishops Lydeard 1, Warminster Town 2

FOR the second week running, Bishops Lydeard let a lead slip in falling to defeat, this time at home to Warminster Town on Saturday.

There was plenty of goalmouth action in in the first half, though it remained goalless.

Mark Clunie came close to opening the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute with a superb 30-yard shot that visiting goalkeeper Nathan Ball did well to save one-handed.

In the 26th minute Lydeard's hard-working Ryan Brereton shot just wide after a cross from the right wing.

The visitors had a shout for a penalty turned down in the 38th minute, and they thought they had taken the lead in the 41st minute but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The first half, which had been ill-tempered and feisty, ended with the Warminster manager being sent from the bench.

Clunie put the home team ahead in the 50th minute with strong shot into the corner of the net after breaking down the right wing.

It remained 1-0 until the 80th minute, when Jake Wright headed home from close range to equalise.

Then Nick Taylor won the points for the visitors with a superb curling shot in the 89th minute.

The home side might have had a late equaliser when Ben Cottrell's late header was pushed wide by Ball.

Lydeard travel to Longwell Green Sports on Saturday, with a 3pm kick-off.

THE weekend's Somerset County League action saw Premier Division side Watchet Town suffer a disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Wrington Redhill, for whom Chris Bradley scored the only goal of the game.

In Division 1, it was a much better day for Minehead AFC and Staplegrove.

Minehead eased to a 4-0 triumph away to Wells City Reserves, with strikes from Matt Harvey and Matt Ronan giving them a two-goal lead at half time.

Guy Burns and Darren Sherring then completed the win in the second half.

As for Staplegrove, they won 4-1 at home to a 10-man Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves side.

Jack Lewis' strike and three goals from Joe Wilkinson in the last 15 minutes won it for Grove; Alan McFerran saw red for the visitors, who had taken the lead with a penalty.

This Saturday sees Watchet host Clutton, Minehead are away to Yatton & Cleeve United, and Staplegrove are without a fixture.
