SMILES: Galmington side Parkfield enjoy the autumn sunshine.

Regional League 1
Galmington 39, Exeter 68

THIS week Galmington faced top of the table side Exeter.

The first five minutes were evenly matched, going goal for goal, as consistent shooting from Polly Land (GS) meant that Galmington were converting their turnovers.

However, Exeter were able to find their rhythm quicker and took the lead.
That early deficit forced Galmington to rethink their gameplan and use their players’ versatility.

Despite the hard work of the whole team, it failed to disrupt Exeter’s play and they increased their advantage.

The second half saw further changes to Galmington’s attack and defence, which proved beneficial.

An increased number of turnovers and forced errors meant that Exeter had to rethink their tactics.

Kelly Coombes (C) used her speed and agility to provide a circle edge option for each attacking play, with the support of Meg Conabere and Daisy West.

Galmington were proving a bigger presence on court than before, with Isla May (WD) making vital tips on the circle edge to stop Exeter’s flow.

Sammy Kemmish (GK) and Hannah Symes (GD) started to get the better of the Exeter attack and created numerous opportunities to fly onto the ball and gain possession.

However, the league leaders remained switched on and soon did the same in their defensive third.

The last quarter saw 10 turnovers for Galmington but the damage had already been done, so it was too late to close the gap.

Still, there was plenty in the performance to suggest that good times are yet to come for this team.
