Cribbs 5, Wellington AFC 1

WELLINGTON suffered their fourth consecutive defeat on Saturday, going down 5-1 away to Cribbs.

The game was goalless for the first 28 minutes, only for Jason Vincent to head the hosts into the lead.

Solomon Wanjau-Smith made it 2-0 10 minutes later, and Vincent grabbed his second just before the hour mark.

Tim Legg headed against the post for the visitors, but Joe Woodley and Tom Collett’s goals compounded the Tangerines’ misery in the last five minutes, before Josh Wadham scored a late consolation.

Wellington, whose Les Phillips Cup tie scheduled for this week has been put back to next Wednesday (November 7, ko 7.45pm), are at home to Clevedon Town this Saturday (ko 3pm).

Clevedon are currently fourth in the Premier Division standings, with the Tangerines in 15th.

Longwell Green Sports 2, Bishops Lydeard 2

WINTER finally arrived at Longwell Green on Saturday, as the match was played in pouring rain and with a cold wind blowing.

Green created chances in the first half but their shooting was either off target or saved by the agile Lydeard keeper Nathan Whatley.

However, in the last 10 minutes of the half, the Bishops started to put some passes together and spent a long time in the home penalty area, without producing an accurate shot on goal.

The game came alive in the 47th minute as Ryan Brereton latched on to a cross from the left wing and carefully slotted the ball home.

It took Longwell Green 20 minutes to find an equaliser, but the Bishops were back in front five minutes later, courtesy of a well-struck shot into the top corner by Jake Quick.

Lydeard were well on top at this stage and looked to be on course for the points until disaster struck in the 89th minute.

The ball was bobbling around the visitors’ penalty box and hit the crossbar twice before a home boot diverted it in.

The away side were content to have gained an away point but thought they deserved more, having led twice.

Lydeard – who play away to Wells City in the Les Phillips Cup tomorrow (Wednesday) night – are without a game on Saturday, returning to action on November 10.
