Regional League 3 South
Cornwall Saints 62, Taunton Vivary 40

VIVARY played top-of-the-table Cornwall Saints and both teams started off strongly, going goal for goal before Vivary took a slight advantage, going up 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Despite strong passages of play and great defensive work by Vivary, Saints took a one-goal advantage into the second half.

Saints piled on the pressure in the third quarter and pulled away; Vivary couldn't reduced the deficit and suffered their first loss of the season.

Somerset Premier Division
Tone 59, Sapphires 37

TONE played newly-promoted Sydenham Sapphires and, after an even start, gradually broke away, finishing the first quarter ahead 16-7.

Excellent feeds into shooters Fee Grammar and Lauren Wilkinson to score, going 33-17 up by half-time and 46-27 up going into the final quarter.

Tone were strong defensively throughout the court, putting pressure on Sapphires’ attack and resulting in some great interceptions from Lauren Knight at GD.

POM was Lucy Jones, OPOM was Fee Grammer. The squad: GS Fee Grammer, GA Lauren Wilkinson, WA Ruby Porter, C Hannah Robins, WD Kim Tong/Kim Radford, GD Lauren Knight, GK Lucy Jones.

Saturn 35, Monmouth 19

MONMOUTH's match against Saturn was fierce, edgy and cagey.

There was very little to separate the two evenly-matched teams bar the Bridgwater side’s brave but accurate long range shooting which gave them a 13-10 lead half time.

They came out all guns blazing in the third quarter catching Monmouth on the back foot which forced them to attack more in the final quarter, which inevitably left more space at the back for Saturn to exploit leading to their win.

Somerset Division 2
Priory 44, Venus 30

PRIORY led the first quarter 12-9 and never relinquished their advantage with some good interceptions made by the defence.

They continued to keep the ball seamlessly flowing through the court and some good shooting from Zoe Stacey at GS and Sophie Bond increased their lead.

Somerset Division 2
Tudor 37, Reckleford 46

TUDOR made a good start with strong defence and good work in the circle giving them a small lead.

It was a well-balanced game, with fantastic shooting by Reckleford.

Tudor suffered a few unfortunate injuries throughout the game but kept up some good teamwork to maintain a small goal difference.

Somerset Division 3
Brendon 41, Mars 50

BRENDON, with only six players at the start, fell behind by eight in the first quarter.

Great defensive work and the addition of a seventh team member saw Brendon manage to maintain the goal difference and stop Mars pulling ahead.

Both teams fielded a mix of ages and experience, but the teams gelled together very well with great feeds and working the space to get the ball into the circle.

POMs: Sophia Valmiki and Charlotte Owen; OPOM: Hanna Jarvis.

BIG W: Claremont celebrate their win against Swans.

Regional League 2
Trident 44, Imperials 63

IF netball matches did third quarters only, Trident would probably be top of the league.

It’s a recurring theme of Trident’s season... maybe it’s the half-time motivational team talks from coach Jazz and captain Nic, or maybe the issue is as the team name suggests, Tri-dent.

Either way, Trident remain positive, because they know the final score doesn’t tell the full story.

Swans 39, Claremont 46

IT was another early start for table-topping Claremont as they played away to Swans, of Wells NC, on Saturday.

The visitors started strongly and took an early lead, but Swans were tenacious and fought back hard, so that there were only two goals in it at half time.

Determined not to let the previous week’s defeat become the start of a losing streak, Claremont came back very well in the third quarter.

Some excellent shooting from captain Lucy Low pulled her side ahead and earned her the player of the match award.

Combined with some strong play in their defensive circle, the away side claimed victory, by 46-39.

Somerset Division 2
Newbarn 50, Chalice 33

NEWBARN seemed to have spooked (Hallowe’en hangover?) opponents Chalice early on, shooting into a seven-goal lead in the first quarter.

Chalice hit back in the second period, their defence getting on top, but then a fine team display saw the Galmington side respond well.

And they finished strongly, keeping up the pace and putting on the pressure.

The entire team performed well, but Veronica Hogben was the standout.
