Wellington AFC 7, Chipping Sodbury Town 2

WELLINGTON shrugged off the absence of banned striker Josh Wadham to smash seven goals past Chipping Sodbury Town on Saturday.

The hosts went ahead on seven minutes, when the referee awarded a penalty for handball and Jack Bryant stepped up to convert from the spot.

But within two minutes it was 1-1, as Joe White found room to fire in an equaliser.

The Tangerines were back ahead in the 15th minute, though, as Joe Chamberlain headed in a left-wing cross.

It remained 2-1 at half time, and at the hour mark, only for the home side to break loose in the final half hour.

After Jack Bryant's shot was saved, Sam Jones headed in from the corner, and Bryant himself made it 4-1 on 68 minutes with a superb effort from 25 yards out.

Then Conor Bryant took over, stretching to convert the fifth goal in the 70th minute and heading in off the underside of the bar on 82 minutes.

Sodbury's Sam Jenkins pulled one back with five minutes left, but the Tangerines had the final word, Glen Wright profiting from a defensive mistake to make it 7-2.

That big win sees Wellington move into the top half of the Premier Division table (10th place); this Wednesday they travel to 17th-placed Bridport (ko 7.45pm), with their next game coming on Saturday, December 1.

Now up to 13th in the table, Lydeard are at home to Wincanton Town, who sit 14th, on Saturday (ko 3pm).
