Toolstation Western League
First Division
Bishops Lydeard 2, Wincanton Town 4

BISHOPS Lydeard were unable to build on the previous week's victory as they succumbed 4-2 at home to Wincanton Town on Saturday.

The visitors were 2-0 up at half time, as Toby Cole finished off a well-worked team move, and then the same player cut in before firing into the top corner from 30 yards.

Cole headed in on the hour to complete his hat-trick and extend the lead, before Lydeard substitute Ryan Brereton pulled one back by converting a rebound.

But Luke White killed off any hopes of a comeback with a fourth for Wincanton, before Harry Millar scored a late consolation for the hosts.

The result leaves Lydeard 15th in the First Division table; this Saturday sees them travel to basement club Bristol Telephones (ko 3pm).

WATCHET Town gave further evidence of their improved form in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League, as they won 3-0 at second-placed Shirehampton.

Adam Jefferies and two Jamie Milton penalties secured the points for Watchet, who stay fourth in the table but are closing in on the leaders with games in hand.

This coming Saturday they are at home to third-placed, and reigning champions, Chilcompton Sports (ko 2pm).

In Division 1, Minehead AFC picked up a good win at Somerton Town, 2-1, thanks to goals from Stefan Phillips and George Sinnott.

But there was no such luck for Staplegrove, beaten 2-0 at Timsbury Athletic.

Sixth-placed Minehead host Saltford, who are second, on Saturday, while Staplegrove, in 12th, entertain 10th-placed Somerton (both ko 2pm).
