CHRISTOPHER Hayfield has won the Midweek Stableford competition with an excellent score of 42 points at Oake Manor.

Colin Gudge was second with 41 points, Neil Blackmore third with 36 and Mike Shaw fourth with 35.

Samuel Frost won the Sunday Stableford with 39, Simon Mankin was second with 37, Roger Goodman third with 35 and Nick Clayton fourth, also with 35.

Charles St George won the Seniors Monday Stableford with 41; second in Division 1 was Martin Rivers with 40, Colin Shepherd third with 37 and seniors captain Jeff Copp fourth, also with 37.

In Division 2, three players tied for first place with 37: on countback, Peter Matthews was first, John Robbins second and Bob Trott third, with Keith Woodmason fourth on 35.

THE men at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club competed in a Turkey Trot on Saturday, at the end of which it was Mike Robinson who narrowly claimed first place.

It was only after countback put him ahead of Philip Cook after both returned with 42 points.

Martin Hogan was third with 40.

On Tuesday, T&P Ladies took part in the Christmas Bowmaker competition, a 12-Hole Stableford with two scores to count on the par 4s and 5s and three scores on the par 3s.

A bonus ‘Christmas Present’ of five points was awarded for holing a shot from off the green and a bonus ‘Stocking Filler’ of three points for holing a single putt on the green rewarded tactical play.

The competition was followed by a Soup and Sandwiches Lunch plus two birthday cakes to honour six octogenarians – Jean Kennedy, Vi Gray, Janet Smart, Jackie Lynn, Liz Reeve and Anne Watson – all of whom still play golf regularly.

The winners of the competition were Jane Ledsham, Sheila Beresford and Liz Reeve with 88 points, second place went to Mary-Jo Shepherd, Anna Rees and Vi Gray with 82, while in third place were Marlene Ewens, Mary Perrett and Katy Davies with 79.

Twos were recorded on the round by Anna Rees, Marlene Ewens and Berni Hatcher.

The winner of the Fancy Golf Bag competition was Marlene Ewens.

IN the Seniors Hallowe’en Stableford at Vivary Golf Club, Keith Parker came in with an impressive 43 points, but Mark “Bronco” Lane rode past him to secure victory with a remarkable 44 points.

On the trail back in third place was Pete Jeffery with 37.

Nigel Griffin edged out both Pete Jeffery and Dave Beale in the Michaelmas Stableford by two points, when he came home with 40 points and claimed the prize.

Jeffery was placed second on countback.

The Stan Hold Stableford was won by Brian Thomas with 39 points, while three players – Dave Hinton, Dave Channon and Steve Baker – returned with 38, and on countback they were placed in that order.

At the halfway stage in the Pairs Betterball Winter League, the leaders by a large margin after six matches were John Fisher and Steve Baker with 259 points.

Rod Hobson and Gwynne Ward led the chasing pack with 234 points.
