WELLINGTON Darts League star Ryan Searle has upset the odds to knock out seventh seed Mensur Suljovic at the World Championship at Alexandra Palace.

World no. 61 Searle recovered from losing the opening set to win 3-1 on Thursday evening, as Austrian Suljovic joined Raymond van Barneveld and Peter Wright in making a shock exit.

Suljovic made a flying start, with six 180s on his way to the first set, but in the second set his average dropped by almost 20 points, and 31-year-old Searle took full advantage.

His steady play allowed him to level the match and then move in front, as 19 missed darts at a double cost his opponent dear.

No comeback was forthcoming, and Searle secured the victory in some style, with a 118 check-out.

That sets up a third round meeting with William O'Connor, to be played on Saturday evening (December 22, from 7pm).

That Saturday session also features Burnham-on-Sea's Gary Anderson taking on Jermaine Wattimena, and Michael van Gerwen against Max Hopp.

Coverage continues live on Sky Sports, through to the final on January 1.
