BRIDGWATER Town player-manager Dave Pearse hailed the impact of the supporters at Fairfax Park after another impressive attendance in Saturday's 1-0 win over Hallen.

A crowd of 253 came through the gate to see the high-flying Robins secure another important win - the sixth highest attendance at Step 5 level nationwide.

Town's average home league crowd this season is 235, comfortably the highest in the division ahead of Plymouth Parkway, who are next with 163.

Pearse said: "Part of our job is to get the crowds back so it is very pleasing.

“We are getting more than a lot of Step 4 teams.

“The majority of our squad are local lads living in Bridgwater, which I think makes a difference.

"The likes of Jack Taylor and Ian Bellinger are popular lads around the town and it will always add a few to the crowd when people's mates are coming down."

Pearse reserved special praise for Taylor after the striker's 50th goal for the club in just 53 games proved the difference at the weekend.

“We were lacklustre and not at full tilt, but one moment of magic from Jack Taylor won it," he said.

“It was a fantastic finish - I don’t know how he squeezed it in from the angle he was at.

“He is certainly among the best finishers I have ever seen at this level.

“It was a horrendous game to watch, neither side could find any rhythm, but I was happy with the clean sheet and how we ground out the result.”

The Robins now have a two-week break, which Pearse believes will be useful in rejuvenating his side after a busy spell, while Mike Duffy is set to make a playing comeback for the reserves over the next fortnight after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
