Somerset FA Junior Cup
Quarter-final
Alcombe Rovers 3, Bishops Lydeard Res 5

BISHOPS Lydeard Reserves won an action-packed encounter away to fellow Taunton Saturday League side Alcombe Rovers to make the semi-finals of the Somerset FA Junior Cup.

Lydeard – unbeaten in all competitions this season – held a 1-0 lead at half time thanks to Andy James, and although the hosts equalised, James and Paul Simpson made it 3-1.

Once again Alcombe fought back, levelling the match at 3-3, only for Pat Sherwood to produce a moment of magic.

From the kick-off, he sent a driven shot over the home goalkeeper and into the net, putting the away side back ahead with 10 minutes to go.

And Sherwood grabbed his second in the dying moments to seal a 5-3 win for Lydeard.

Luke Freeman, Grant Hodgson and Alastair Harrison netted Alcombe's goals.

They have been drawn away to Yeovil-based Wagtail Athletic in the semi-finals, with the other last four match pitting Bridgwater Sports against Frome Collegians.

Those matches are scheduled to be played on Saturday, March 9.
