Verde Recreo League Championship

City of Bath 1, Taunton Vale 6

TAUNTON travelled to Bath looking to continue their good form.

Having gone down to an early penalty flick, Vale soon found their rhythm and scored through a Karl Trunks deflection after good work from Liam Pigden.

This was followed by an Adam Veitch deflection from a short corner.

Early in the second half Vale went ballistic as Martin Johnson and Rich Jenkin scored from short corners and Trunks and Pigden got in on the act to make it six.

Despite a glut of goals early on, Vale did not score for the remaining 20 minutes to see out a comfortable victory.

Man of the match: Bayley Chatwin

South East 1

Taunton Vale C 1, Taunton Civil Service 4

VALE C took on promotion-chasing Civil Service in a local derby on Saturday in which Civil came out 4-1 winners.

A bright Vale started well but were unfortunately pegged back after some good work on the edge of the D by Civil.

Three further unanswered goals before half time put Civil Service 4-0 up.

Vale put in a spirited performance in the second half and were rewarded with a smart goal from Jon Pike, and Vale were unfortunate not to add to their goal-tally with a host of spurned chances.

Vale travel to Minehead next looking to pick up some crucial points.

Man of the Match: Josh Baker.

South East 2

Taunton Vale D 1, West Dorset A 2

VALE dominated possession in the first half, creating several chances to open the scoring.

However, they were unable to find a way passed West Dorset's keeper who made some critical saves to keep the score at 0-0 at half-time.

A resurgent West Dorset took the lead early in the second half.

Vale rallied, but West Dorset proved difficult to break down.

Parity was eventually restored through a James Waterman goal with five minutes to go.

Just as the game seemed destined for a draw, West Dorset won a short corner.

Vale keeper Liam Hill did well to keep the first effort out, but in the goal mouth scramble that followed West Dorset were able to squeeze the ball over the line to take a 2-1 victory.

The result sees West Dorset leapfrog Vale into third place in the league.

On Saturday, Vale take on leaders North Devon A.

South East 3

Ashmoor C 2, Taunton Vale E 3

IN a classic game of two halves, a predominantly senescent Vale team got the better of youthful Ashmoor team by a single goal.

Leading 2-0 at half-time, Taunton bossed the opening half and their goals came from Roland Zwarteveen and Ross Smith both were clinically taken from close range.

The hosts responded after the break and piled on the pressure, leaving Vale's defence battling for their lives at times.

Ashmoor restored parity with 15 minutes to play, only to have their hearts broken by Ellis Lake's last gasp winner.
