TAUNTON Town received a boost without even playing on Saturday as two of their title rivals failed to take maximum points.

The Peacocks called off their home match with Swindon Supermarine due to snow and ice, but both Weymouth and Salisbury were in action.

Weymouth, four points behind the Peacocks, couldn't make any inroads into that gap as they went down 2-1 at home to Basingstoke Town, who were hovering above the relegation zone going into the weekend.

The Terras still have two games in hand on Taunton, but yesterday's surprise defeat keeps the Peacocks' cushion intact for now.

Salisbury, meanwhile, were denied by a last-gasp equaliser at Hendon in a 2-2 draw.

A Daniel Fitchett brace had put Steve Claridge's side 2-1 up, but Connor Calcutt snatched a point for the hosts at the death.

Salisbury join Weymouth on 52 points, four behind Taunton with one game in hand on the Peacocks.

Poole Town beat Kings Langley 3-0 in the only other game to take place in the division on Saturday.
