THREE Huish Sport teams have progressed into the quarter-finals or further in their respective sports.

This month saw the women’s basketball team compete against Leyton Sixth Form College from London in the National Cup quarter-final.

Playing at home, Huish came out triumphant, beating their opponents with a 64-31 win, leading them to the semi-finals where they will play New City College, Hackney in March.

The girls have also secured a place in the semi-finals of the Dynamik Cup where they will play Charnwood away on March 6, and in April they will also compete in the AoC Sport National Championships.

Hoping to match their female counterparts, the men’s basketball team will compete in the quarter-finals against The College of Richard Collyer on February 27.

In the same week as the Women’s Basketball success, the Women’s Hockey team also secured a place in the semi-finals.

After beating Godalming College 3-0, the team will now travel to Cambridge to compete against Hills Road Sixth Form in hope of securing a place in the AoC Sport National Cup Final.

After finishing second in the league, ranking higher than local teams Bridgwater and Taunton College and Weston College, Huish men’s rugby XV also earned their place in the National Premier quarter-finals.

They will now play Coleg y Cymoedd, from Caerphilly, on March 6 in hope of progressing on to the next stage.

This is a great opportunity for the students to play at a high level of rugby, with the opposing team consisting of 15 Cardiff Blues Academy and 10 Welsh international players.

Sport development manager Connor Sidley-Adams said: “This is a fantastic achievement by our students to be not just competing on a national stage but to be excelling within their sports."
