Taunton Vivary 48, Cornwall Storm 48

VIVARY played top-of-the-table Cornwall Storm, drawing 48-48.

Playing a team who have lost only one game this season, Vivary were 7-1 down early on but battled back to trail 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The second and third quarters saw excellent defensive work by Vivary, fast attacking play and accurate shooting and, going into the final quarter, the score was 35-35.

In a nervy last few minutes, either team could have taken the win.

The points ended up being shared in a draw, with a solid team performance from Vivary and very loud home support.

Monmouth 29, Claremont 53

MONMOUTH got off to a very strong start against top-of-the-table Claremont and quickly gained a three-goal advantage, but Claremont soon came back and took the first quarter 14-7.

The second quarter saw errors begin to creep in for Monmouth and Claremont relentlessly capitalised on them.

Despite some great defensive work and interceptions, Monmouth fell further behind but came out fighting in the third quarter to go into the final quarter 43-21 down.

Monmouth enjoyed their best quarter and lost by just two goals, gaining an extra point.

Blackdown 52, Canons 25

BLACKDOWN got off to a strong start against Wells Canons, with great shooting from Lucy at GS and Charlotte at GA and they took an early lead (13-5).

They continued their lead into the second quarter and continued into the third with some good interceptions from Victoria Saban at WD to go 39-17 up.

Canons made a push in the final quarter but Blackdown managed to find their shooters with relative ease to secure their win.

Jupiter 36, Hovelands 52

GALMINGTON Hovelands travelled to take on Bridgwater Jupiter in a crunch match in the battle to avoid relegation.

It was a nervy start, Jupiter leading 10-6 after the first quarter, but Hovelands hit back to take a 20-18 advantage.

The visitors dominated the third quarter, scoring 16 more goals, and defensive steel saw out the win.

Claremont 53, Monmouth 29

IT was top versus bottom in the Premier Division on Saturday, and leaders Galmington Claremont threw off a slow start to beat Monmouth, of Taunton NC.

The basement side pounced on errors to go 3-0 up, but the Galmington side then settled and led 14-7 by the end of the first quarter.

Claremont made several changes and worked on new combinations, taking a 31-13 lead at half-time and improving to 43-21 going into the final quarter before seeing out the win.

Parkfield 46, Quantock 35

PARKFIELD defeated Taunton rivals Quantock and won 46-35 to remain on the coat-tails of Division 1 leaders Vipers.

Parkfield had a full squad available and it was a fine team performance, although Hannah Squire delivered the standout performance.

The Galmington team built and early lead and maintained it throughout with some hard work and cool heads.

Newbarn 51, Reckleford 29

NEWBARN powered into the semi-finals of the cup with a 51-29 win over Yeovil Reckleford.

They opened up an early 17-7 lead, and although Reckleford fought back, a good half-time team talk and a few changes enabled the Galmington side to finish stronger and see out a comfortable win.

Emeralds 13, Queensway 58

THERE was also cup delight for Queensway, who came back from 1610 Robert Blake in Bridgwater with a 58-13 win over Sydenham Emeralds.

Queensway celebrated Eve Newman’s birthday in style, with a solid and committed team performance to progress in the competition.
