Bishops Lydeard 6, Devizes Town 1

BISHOPS Lydeard made it three wins in a row as they trounced a weakened Devizes Town side on Saturday.

The Bishops had their keeper Nathan Whatley to thank for keeping the scores level early on, as he pulled off two brave saves from close range in the opening 25 minutes.

And the visitors were made to pay for not taking those chances when a well-worked move down the left ended with a cross being slotted home by Zac Ryder.

The hosts' second goal came in the 42nd minute, when Ben Hebditch got his name on the scoresheet.

And it was 3-0 on the stroke of half-time, as Ryan Brereton broke down the left and fired past the stranded goalkeeper.

Devizes' day got worse when their left-back handled the ball in the penalty box and Luke Bryant calmly netted from the penalty spot.

But the away side then pulled a goal back as Matthew Lever headed in a cross from the left.

They came close to a second in the 58th minute, but a defender's boot cleared the ball off the line, and seconds later Lydeard substitute Harry Millar made it 5-1.

Millar then added goal number six in the 83rd minute, before another magnificent Whatley save ensured a final score of 6-1.

This was a determined and committed performance from the whole Lydeard team, who travel to Wincanton on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Burnham United 3, Staplegrove 3

STAPLEGROVE failed to build on their cup heroics against Watchet Town the previous weekend, as they went ahead three times only to draw 3-3 at fellow league strugglers Burnham United on Saturday.

Grove went 1-0 up, 2-1 up and 3-2 up, but goals from Mike Stevens, Jaymie Whitehouse and Ed Lamb earned the hosts a share of the spoils.

It leaves Grove in 12th spot, two points ahead of Burnham and eight clear of the bottom two, ahead of this Saturday's trip to 10th-placed Yatton & Cleeve United (ko 3pm).
