TAUNTON Town's current crop of promotion-chasers were watched by title winners from years gone by at the weekend as the club held a former players' reunion.

Plenty of the squad who won the club's first ever Western League title in 1968/69 were present to mark the 50th anniversary of their triumph.

Former Town goalkeeper Mike Berryman organised the reunion and was delighted with how it panned out.

"I started arranging it in October and trying to find everyone," Berryman said.

"Some of us haven't seen each other for 40 or 45 years but when we are together it is just like how it was back then.

"People have come from the Isles of Scilly, Wiltshire, Devon and Bristol to be here, which is great.

"I come to every home game, as do a few of us, but hopefully we can make these reunions a bit more regular for everyone to get together."

Phil Trevelyan said: "I played every game of that season but missed the one we clinched the title in as I was getting married.

"They were great times, but I wish the pitches back then were as good as the one here now!"
