West Clubs Women’s League
Sedgemoor Division 1
Winscombe 1, Minehead 2

MINEHEAD travelled away to Winscombe on Saturday, knowing a win would seal the Sedgemoor 1 title.

This was always going to be a close match and would come down to who wanted it most.

In the first half, both teams had chances and it was Minehead who took the lead through Hannah Sparks with a lovely positioned shot.

Winscombe fought hard and equalised despite some amazing saves by keeper Jan Weetch.

At half-time, Minehead knew they had to start playing like they did early on in the first half - namely with great team play out from the back, through midfield and up to the forwards.

Minehead won lots of short corners after the break but couldn’t put the ball away until Perkins found her way through to smash the ball home, making it 2-1.

Weetch had to make some more cracking saves to prevent Winscombe coming back again.

Minehead held on until the end to win 2-1 - enough to become league winners as they hold an unassailable six-point lead over Taunton Vale 3rds.

Player of the match was Jan Weetch for her fantastic saves which allowed Minehead to hold on to their lead.

Minehead: Jan Weetch, Anne Balderstone-Dowds, Jess Koppa, Carol Matravers, Hannah Cornish, Hazel Binding, Hannah Sparks, Rachel Heaney, Amy Tisshaw, Zoey Cape, Dee Lancaster, Vicky Perkins

The victory means Minehead finish their superb season with 16 wins, one draw and just one defeat from their 18 league matches.
