Willand Rovers 3, Wellington AFC 0

WELLINGTON suffered a second three-goal defeat in three days on Easter Monday, as they were well beaten away to title-chasing Willand Rovers.

Having lost 4-1 at Bridgwater Town on Friday, the Tangerines travelled to face a side sitting one point off the top and with a game in hand on leaders Plymouth Parkway.

And Willand were in no mood to be charitable, going ahead on nine minutes through Brad Ausden’s clincal finish.

Craig Duff almost made it 2-0, heading against the post, while Jack Bown-Porter saw a header saved at the other end.

The hosts doubled their lead six minutes after half-time, Ausden heading in while Wellington players called for a foul on Mitch Woodgate.

Chances came and went at both ends, but Willand wrapped it up with five minutes left, substitute Dean Stamp rounding Josh Mclean to make it 3-0.

Wellington: Josh Mclean, Mitch Woodgate, Jack Bown-Porter, Tim Legg, Scott Drayton, Glen Wright, Jack Bryant, Sam Jones, Conor Bryant, Josh Wadham, Joe Wylie. Subs: Lewis Pocock, George Rogers. Scott Townsend.

Wellington lie 16th in the table going into this Saturday’s final match of the season; they could finish 14th if they win at Clevedon Town (ko 3pm) and other results go their way.

Bishops Lydeard 3, Bishop Sutton 0

THIS was the third meeting of these clubs this season, and Bishops Lydeard made it a hat-trick of wins on Easter Monday.

Bishop Sutton proved to be gritty and determined opponents but Lydeard had three moments of quality in scoring their goals that gave them their victory.

In the fifth minute, a through ball in the middle of the park was picked up by Ryan Brereton, who guided it carefully past the keeper.

Lydeard had a long wait until they added a second goal.

In the 76th minute, a direct free-kick by substitute Cahal Robinson was smashed into the top corner of the visitors’ goal from 25 yards out.

Three minutes later, Bishop Sutton broke away and looked certain to score, only for Nathan Whatley to pull off a superb save to preserve his clean sheet.

Brereton completed the scoring for the hosts in the 82nd minute with a thunderbolt of a shot that went in off the crossbar.

Bishops Lydeard: Nathan Whatley, Luke Bryant, Jason Quick, Mark Cornish, Ben Cottrell, Sam Mockridge, Douglas Camilo, Ryan Brereton, Harry Millar, Zac Ryder, Luke Wandless. Subs: Callum Flaherty, Jack Kelly, Cahal Robinson.

Lydeard, who sit 12th in the table, complete their fixtures on Saturday, away to 10th-placed Wells City (ko 3pm).
