FORGET the Avengers... this is the real Endgame.

Taunton boss Rob Dray has had his wish granted, and the Premier Division South title will be decided on the final day.

Weymouth looked to have it wrapped up with nine wins and a draw between February 16 and April 6, while the Peacocks wobbled – winning four, drawing two and losing three in the same period.

But now the Terras are stumbling over the finish line, without a win in their last three, and Taunton have closed the gap to a point.

Let’s be clear: Weymouth are still big favourites to win the league and be promoted.

If they beat Farnborough – a team who cannot make the play-offs or get relegated – at home on Saturday, they will be going up regardless of what Taunton do.

And if the Peacocks fail to win at Basingstoke, Weymouth are promoted (unless their goal difference, which is 10 better than Taunton’s, takes a proper blitzing).

So the odds are against Dray’s men (33-10, if you’re interested), but I think they might have taken that when they were 2-0 down to Merthyr on Monday.

They just don’t know when they’re beaten, this side, and they keep coming back.

Even if Weymouth do get the job done and Taunton have to settle for second, that’s still a remarkable achievement for a newly-promoted side that had its manager nicked in September.

Second spot ensures that the Peacocks would have home advantage for the play-off semi-final, against Kings Langley or Poole Town, on Wednesday, May 1 (ko 7.45pm).

Win that match and they would meet the winner of Met Police v Salisbury, also at the Viridor Stadium, in the final on Monday, May 6 (ko 3pm).

Another victory would set up a ‘super’ play-off final against the Isthmian League play-off winner on Saturday, May 11 (ko 3pm).

That’s a lot of ifs, but Monday’s comeback win really did feel like something special, and if the play-offs are where Taunton are headed, you wouldn’t write them off given what they now have: momentum.
