SO we are about 10 weeks into the season and we already have a trophy in the cabinet!

It was an incredible day at Lord’s watching the boys put in a thoroughly professional performance to beat a talented and belligerent Hampshire side.

They were slightly hampered by their unavailability of star players, but we still had to be good enough and we were!

Hopefully this will take some pressure off of our Championship campaign and the remainder of the season.

Somerset have finished second too many times in recent memory and it will do wonders for this squad that we have a trophy in the bank already.

I can already sense that the core group of lads in the first team are thriving in the big games and big moments, and the longer we continue to enjoy those passages of play, the better chance we will have of getting over the line and winning more often!

There is an awfully long way to go in the season and we sit top of the Championship having started the season quick out of the blocks.

However, a lot can happen and there are lots of other good teams in Division 1 who will have their say.

All we can do is the old adage of controlling what we can control, do the simple things well and play with a positive mindset.

We’ll let the supporters, media and other people around the club write about our chances and get excited for us; we still have a lot of hard work to do and Championships are not won in June.

As for individual performers, Lewis Gregory is back from injury and as I write this he has just taken a career best six-fer against Kent.

He has been on fire this season and, even after a couple of weeks out injured, he shows no signs of rustiness!

Long may he continue to stay fit and keep performing incredibly well for us.

On a personal note, it was very pleasing to get my first five-fer for Somerset, to contribute to victory in the massive game at Surrey.

I pride myself on my wicket-taking ability and knack of turning up in big moments, like fourth innings when we need to bowl a team out.

It was pleasing to make a decent contribution to a win, show my team-mates what I’m here for and to let everyone know what I’m capable of.

The best thing was that I didn’t even think I bowled that well!

That bodes well, when we haven’t been performing to our best ability yet as a team but are still grinding out results... hopefully there’s plenty more where that came from!
